Nisha Thapa Becomes First Nurse from Sikkim to Join Germany’s Clinicum St. Georg Cancer Hospital

Nisha Thapa, a 27-year-old nursing professional from Burul Busty in Namchi, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first nurse from Sikkim to secure a position at the renowned Clinicum St. Georg Cancer Hospital in Germany.

Nisha completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (2015–2019), followed by a Master’s degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing with a specialization in Critical Care (2021–2023). She also holds a German Language B2 certification from Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Professionally, she has served two years in the Emergency Department of the Central Referral Hospital. Before moving abroad, she transitioned into academics and is currently a German language trainer (A1 & A2 levels) at BV. Nisha expressed her gratitude to Bilingual Vitae and the community platform Sikkim Inspires for guiding her through the process.

A Journey Marked by Resilience

Sharing her personal journey, Nisha reflects on a childhood shaped by hardship:

“I was raised by a single mother, and throughout my childhood I witnessed many struggles—financial and emotional. Those experiences built my determination and taught me the value of resilience. My biggest goal has always been to become financially independent and explore opportunities beyond borders.”

Why She Chose Germany

Nisha developed a profound admiration for the German language during her academic journey.

“German is incredibly beautiful—precise, structured, and almost mathematical in its clarity. Once you understand its rules, everything falls into place.”

She dedicated one and a half years to learning the language intensively before beginning her career as a trainer in Sikkim. Teaching, she says, came naturally:

“Teaching German brings me joy, just as caring for people has always been close to my heart. For me, both nursing and language are ways of helping, connecting, and inspiring others.”
