Zee Theatre presents the Hindi adaptation of Tagore’s eternal classic ‘Chokher Bali’

the Hindi adaptation of Tagore's eternal classic 'Chokher Bali'

The teleplay starring Vijay Varma, Chandan Roy Sanyal, and Parno Mitra among others dwells upon gender inequities and complex human relationships

Though written in 1903, Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Chokher Bali’ remains engrossing even today due to its insightful portrayal of human relationships and the social castigation of women who rebel against the unjust restrictions placed upon them. The central protagonist is the beautiful widow Binodini, who arrives in Calcutta to live with the matriarch Rajlakshmi and her son Mahendra, who had earlier refused to marry her. Mahendra is now married to Ashalata but is drawn to Binodini’s sharp intelligence and beauty. In this equation is also Mahendra’s best friend Bihari and soon distrust, adultery, and lies engulf the lives of all four characters.

Directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, the period drama stars Parno Mitra, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Vijay Varma, Paromita Chatterjee and Chitrangada.
