Sunjoy Waddhwa on Meri Bhavya Life: “The World Has Moved On, But Society Still Judges”

With shows like Balika Vadhu, Gangaa, and Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar, Sunjoy Waddhwa and his team at Sphereorigins have always delivered stories that go beyond entertainment. They make people think. They open conversations. They create impact.

From highlighting child marriage to breaking beauty standards, Sphereorigins has never been afraid to talk about difficult but necessary topics. Their recent step into the OTT space with series like Ranneeti, Your Honor, and Dark 7 White shows that their storytelling continues to evolve, without losing its heart.

Now, with their current Colors show #MeriBhavyaLife, they’ve taken another bold step – talking about body shaming. In a TV world filled with repetitive plots, this show brings a fresh and important perspective. Sunjoy Waddhwa believes this story was not a risk, but something meaningful. “For us, it wasn’t a risk but rather an intriguing concept,” he said.

He added, “Sphereorigins has always explored unique ideas – from Balika Vadhu to Saath Phere and Gangaa. So this didn’t feel risky. The show has a modern feel and addresses something society wrongly calls an issue.”

The story focuses on a confident girl who lives in a world that constantly points fingers at her weight. When asked if this issue is more relevant today, Sunjoy replied, “The times change, but issues remain the same. In the 90s, we might not have connected with the younger audience. But today’s generation is different – they are confident. They don’t see weight as a problem, but society keeps reminding them that it is.”

He also pointed out how social media plays a big role now: “Back then, we didn’t have platforms to discuss this openly. Today, social media gives voice to these topics. That’s why the story connects across all generations.”

Sunjoy Waddhwa’s stories have always carried meaning, emotion, and purpose. And with every new project, he proves that good storytelling isn’t about trends – it’s about truth.
