As India celebrates its 77th Republic Day, actress Seerat Kapoor takes a moment to revisit her roots and the military lineage that deeply shaped her upbringing. For Seerat, Republic Day has always held layered meaning — not just as a national celebration, but as a reminder of discipline, honour and service carried forward through generations in her family.

Few are aware that Seerat hails from an army background, with both her grandfathers and their siblings having served in the Indian Armed Forces. Collectively, the family represented both the Army and the Air Force, a legacy Kapoor describes as “shared responsibility shaped by duty and integrity.”

Her maternal grandfather, Late Brigadier Trishan Singh, began his journey as a pilot in the Army Air Observation Post (Air O.P) unit and later went on to head the Ordnance Factories and serve as a Small Arms Inspector during his tenure. Seerat Kapoor Father’s Father, Grandfather was a Colonel.

Sharing her thoughts on the values she inherited, Kapoor reflects:
“I come from a family where service to the nation was not just a profession, it was a calling. My grandfather and his brothers served with a sense of duty that shaped our home. From them, I learned that leadership is responsibility, real bravery is quiet, and dignity is how you behave when no one is watching.”

Seerat credits her grandparents for instilling discipline, humility, punctuality and a belief in serving something larger than oneself — values that she says continue to guide her both personally and professionally.

“These teachings influence how I work, how I treat people and how I navigate uncertainty. Their legacy reminds me that character is built in everyday choices.”

This Republic Day, Kapoor remembers her grandparents with gratitude.
