India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, widely celebrated as the nation’s “Golden Boy,” marked a significant personal milestone as he hosted a grand wedding reception with his wife Himani Mor Chopra in Karnal on Saturday.

Clad in elegant traditional attire and wearing his trademark calm smile, Chopra appeared every bit the grounded national icon he is known to be. Although the event was initially planned as a close-knit family celebration, moments from the evening quickly found their way onto social media, with photographs and videos circulating widely across fan pages and timelines nationwide.

The reception came nearly 11 months after the couple quietly tied the knot in January. At the time, the understated announcement had surprised fans accustomed to grand public celebrations. This time, however, the scale and warmth of the occasion reflected both the couple’s joy and Chopra’s stature beyond the sporting arena.

The evening reached its peak when Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to personally congratulate the newlyweds. Far from a brief courtesy call, the Prime Minister spent time with family members, shared conversations, and interacted warmly with guests, adding gravitas to an already distinguished gathering that included leading athletes and political figures.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had hosted Neeraj and Himani at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, where discussions ranged from sports and personal journeys to future aspirations. Later, Modi shared a message on X, stating: “Met Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor… We had a great interaction on various issues, including sports of course!”

Neeraj Chopra, who created history as the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics, had announced his marriage earlier this year with a characteristically simple Instagram post: “Starting a new chapter of life with my family. Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together.”

Himani Mor Chopra brings an accomplished sporting and academic background of her own. The 25-year-old tennis player from Sonipat is a graduate of Miranda House and holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management from Franklin Pierce University in the United States. She represented India at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei and also won gold at the 2016 World Junior Tennis Championship.

Together, the couple’s journey reflects shared values of discipline, humility, and excellence—qualities that continue to inspire admirers both within and beyond the world of sports.
