Journey of Dadasaheb Phalke’s Youngest Best Aspiring Director:

Dadasaheb Phalke's Youngest Best Aspiring Director Saumitra Singh

Saumitra Singh, the Wallet fame, decided to go on the path of Direction after completing his internship at IBN7 and Sundance FilmForward (USA), during his graduation days in Mass Communication and Journalism. The internship gave him an insight into the media industry and gave him a clear picture of what he would like to pursue his career, which was Direction. He graduated from Amity University, Noida, in Mass Communication and Journalism, with Film Making and Advertising as his specialised subjects.

There started his journey in the entertainment industry, where he by far has achieved so many accolades in such a short time. Along with being an accomplished Director, Saumitra is also known for his spectacular work as a graphic designer. He has designed the Official Posters for numerous projects, that include short films, feature films, web series, etc, on various platforms.

Saumitra’s journey as a Director started with his most accomplished short film till date ‘the Wallet’, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Navni Parihar as the lead actors, which won him 75+ National and International Awards, that included Dadasaheb Phalke Award for Best Aspiring Director 2019. Saumitra Singh is the youngest achiever of this special award till date. The short film was about an unattended Wallet that kept the secret of love, loyalty and passion. His second Short Film, ‘Painful Pride’, starring Pallavi Joshi and Rituraj K Singh, which was a fictional story based on the real problems and pains caused to women undergoing menopause was also noticed, appreciated, acknowledged and honoured with more than 30 awards, and still counting.

Other than these two phenomenal short films, he has also directed super gripping and creative projects like ‘Kala Bai from Byculla’, starring Sharib Hashmi and Shruti Bapna, ‘Darwaaza’, and his latest upcoming Film, ‘Taxi No. 24′, starring Mahesh Manjarekar, Jagjeet Sandhu and Anangsha Biswas.

Saumitra has been blessed with working with the finest actors of the industry since the beginning of his career, and says to have waited for seven months for Mr Naseeruddin Shah’s date for his directorial debut, the Wallet, and well, has reaped the seeds of patience that he had sown. His actors praise him not only for his dedication to his work but also for the systematic way of work, which allows him to finish even the most tedious projects in a short time frame. His dedication towards his work kept him motivated in the lockdown period, and he once again proves his credibility by completing his entire film, Taxi No.24, post lockdown.

It is just about time that a fine young Director like Saumitra is set to be one of the biggest names of the Indian Film Industry with multiple projects already lined on his path.
