Actor Sumbul Touqeer is set to make a comeback to the big screen after six years, this time taking on her first lead role in the upcoming film Jhaad Phook. Reflecting on this moment, she says, “I manifested this,” adding that returning to films had always been in her plans.

She recalls her role in Article 15 back in 2019, saying, “I kept telling myself, ‘I want to do more films, but next time as a lead.’ Now that it’s actually happening, I couldn’t believe it until I was on set.”

Jhaad Phook is a major milestone for Sumbul, marking her debut as the main lead — something she describes as “no less than a feat.” She admits the experience has been slightly overwhelming. The film is currently being shot in Uttarakhand.

Speaking about her choice to be part of this project, Sumbul shares that the story stood out to her for being fresh and engaging. “My main aim is to do full justice to my character, Astha,” she says.

Having already worked in television and music videos, her entry into films in 2019 felt like a natural progression. But even after stepping into cinema, she remains open to working across different platforms. “I love acting, so why limit myself to one medium?” she asks.

When it comes to taking up roles, Sumbul is very particular. “I’ve never taken up just anything that came my way. I’m always drawn to stories where I feel there’s something meaningful to express — that’s what excites the storyteller in me.”
