The statue was inaugurated by eminent poet, translator, academic and literary critic Prof. Pradip Acharya, in the distinguished presence of RGU Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari, Vice Chancellor Prof. A.K. Buragohain, Chair Professor of the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Advisor to the Chancellor Prof. Dhrubajyoti Borah, and Lakhyajit Bora, the sculptor behind the towering 10-foot installation. The occasion was also attended by Zubeen Garg’s sister Dr. Palme Borthakur, along with senior academicians, delegates, faculty members, staff and students. Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury reflected on the deeper symbolism of the statue, highlighting Zubeen Garg’s childlike innocence, his profound connection with nature, and the many layers of his artistic journey. In his address as Chief Guest, Prof. Pradip Acharya spoke about the spirit of wanderlust that defines Zubeen Garg’s life and music, noting how this restless search for meaning has shaped his creative expression and resonated with generations. The ceremony was enriched by a soulful saxophone performance by Sanjeev Rabha, followed by a moving musical tribute as Sushant Chowdhury and his team rendered the timeless classics “Jodi Jibonor Rong Bure” and “Mayabini”, drawing an emotional response from the audience. Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari described Zubeen Garg as a truly singular figure, stating that his artistic presence and influence remain unmatched. Members of the RGU fraternity turned out in large numbers, reflecting the deep admiration and respect the artist commands across generations.
