Be it ‘Haunted 3D: Ghosts of the Past’ or ‘Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari’, a mix of genres is set to conquer the boxoffice in the second half of 2025

From ‘Do Gaz Zameen Ke Neeche’ (1972) to ‘Raat’ (1992), horror has firmly secured its place in Indian cinema. The early 2000s gave it a fresh turn with Vikram Bhatt’s ‘Raaz’ (2002) and Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Bhoot’ (2003), which set a new standard for the genre and drew audiences back to theatres. Meanwhile, with the grand success of ‘Saiyaara’ (2025), romantic films too are back on track. Today, the stage is set once more for different genres to shine, with upcoming releases pointing to a revival.

Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari

Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla and Shashank Khaitan, ‘Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari’ features Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf in lead roles. The story follows Sunny, a bold and lively character, who sets out to win back his former girlfriend, Ananya, with grand romantic gestures. At the same time, Tulsi Kumari is coping with heartbreak after Vikram calls off their engagement. A twist of fate brings Sunny and Tulsi together, leading them to join forces in a plan to disrupt their exes’ new relationships. What follows is a chain of comic situations and playful chaos, promising plenty of humour along the way. The film is slated for release on October 2, 2025.

Haunted 3D: Ghosts of the Past

After the success of the 2011 hit ‘Haunted – 3D,’ director Vikram Bhatt and veteran producer Anand Pandit reunite for ‘Haunted 3D: Ghosts of the Past.’ The film promises a mix of advanced 3D technology, striking visual effects, and engaging storytelling. According to the filmmaker, ‘Haunted 3D: Ghosts of the Past’ is not just another horror film but an intense psychological journey that delivers fear along with a strong narrative. Featuring Gaurav Bajpai and Mimoh Chakraborty in lead roles, the film is scheduled for release on November 21.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat

Expected to mark the return of one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished genres-the musical love story-‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ is directed by Milap Zaveri. The romantic drama, written by Milap Zaveri and Mushtaq Sheikh, stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa in their first on-screen pairing. Packed with intense emotions, heartbreak, obsession, and passion, the teaser hints at two characters who were once deeply in love but are now estranged, navigating separation, rivalry, and inner conflict. The film is set to release on October 21.

Chaniya Toli

Producers Anand Pandit and Vaishal Shah team up for the fourth time for the Gujarati film ‘Chaniya Toli.’ Written by Parth Trivedi, Jay Bodas, and Pratiksinh Chavda, and directed by Jay Bodas and Parth Trivedi, the film stars Yash Soni, Netri Trivedi, Heena Varde, Chetan Daiya, and Maulik Nayak. The story follows an ordinary man who discovers that his village is on the brink of financial ruin due to systemic corruption and government failures. Troubled by the villagers’ plight, he decides to take bold action: to reclaim from the system that has long kept them oppressed and impoverished. The film blends action, comedy, and social commentary as the villagers unite, guided by courage, cleverness, and a touch of mischief. ‘Chaniya Toli’ is set for a Diwali release.
