Assamese Film ‘Adi Shakti’ Wins Multiple Honours at National and International Film Platforms

In a significant achievement for regional cinema, the Assamese feature film Adi Shakti has earned multiple recognitions across prominent film platforms in early 2026, bringing national and international attention to Assam’s growing film industry.

The film received major honours at the Jaipur International Film Festival 2026, the New Delhi Film Festival 2026, and the Global Cine Confluence – Delhi Film Convention and Summit held in the national capital, underscoring its strong reception across diverse cinematic forums.

Among its key accolades, Adi Shakti won Best Feature Film, while writer Indrani Baruah received the Best Original Story award. Actor Arshiya Mahanta was honoured as Best Debut Actress for her portrayal of a resilient woman confronting patriarchal oppression—a performance that has drawn widespread critical praise.

The film is directed by Bitupan Kashyap and produced by Ira Studio. It has been widely appreciated for its bold narrative, cultural authenticity, and socially relevant themes of resistance and empowerment rooted in local realities.

Industry observers note that the film’s success reflects a broader shift in regional storytelling, where culturally grounded narratives are finding recognition beyond linguistic boundaries.

With participation from thousands of entries representing more than 60 countries, the New Delhi conclave served as a global platform for cinematic dialogue. The recognition of Adi Shakti at such forums has further elevated the presence of Assamese cinema on the national and international stage, reinforcing its growing creative and cultural influence.
