“Television Needs Authenticity Today”: Rahul Kumar Tewary on His New Show Jagadhatri

Producer Rahul Kumar Tewary is gearing up for the launch of his latest show Jagadhatri on Zee TV, a project he describes as deeply rooted in emotion and inspired by the charm of classic Indian television. Rahul, who fondly remembers the era of limited but impactful programming, says the idea behind the show is to bridge the gap between nostalgia and modern storytelling.

“When I think about television from my childhood, I remember all of us gathering after dinner, waiting for one specific show. That excitement, that connection… it was special. Shows like Ramayana weren’t just entertainment—they were rituals,” he shares. Those memories, he believes, still hold a strong place in people’s hearts, and Jagadhatri attempts to bring back some of that emotional comfort.

The producer reveals that the narrative focuses on everyday human emotions and the depth of relationships. “Jagadhatri is about the people around her as much as it is about her. Their influence, their stories, their faith, and the choices they make… all of it forms her world. We’ve kept the characters very real and grounded.”

According to Rahul, today’s audience looks for meaning, honesty, and connection in content. That is the gap Jagadhatri aims to fill. “I feel television is at a stage where authenticity matters more than ever. Viewers want stories they can see themselves in, characters that feel like someone they know.”

The show brings together a blend of devotion, drama, and emotional depth—elements Rahul feels are essential to Indian storytelling. As the team prepares for the premiere, he hopes families will embrace the show the way earlier generations embraced television. “If Jagadhatri can recreate even a fraction of the warmth we once felt sitting together in front of the TV, it will be a win.”
