Sikkim’s Bigyna Dahal Wins Filmfare OTT Award 2025, Puts Northeast on the Global Sound Map

Sikkim-born sound designer and production sound mixer Bigyna Dahal has won the Filmfare OTT Award 2025 for his exceptional work on the Amazon Prime Video series Khauf, marking a major milestone for talent from the Northeast on India’s national and global cinema stage.

The recognition adds to a growing list of international accolades for Dahal, whose journey from Yangang and Namchi in South Sikkim to some of the world’s most prestigious film platforms has been both unconventional and inspiring. Trained initially as a physics student, Dahal went on to carve a distinctive career in sound design—an often understated but critical pillar of cinematic storytelling.

Over the years, his work has been showcased and honoured at leading global festivals and institutions, including IDFA Amsterdam, IDSFFK Kerala, SXSW, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and events in Berlin and Amsterdam. These achievements underline his growing stature as one of India’s most respected sound professionals working across fiction, documentary and OTT formats.

Industry observers note that Dahal’s success reflects a larger shift in Indian cinema, where technical excellence from regions beyond the traditional film hubs is gaining long-overdue recognition. His Filmfare OTT win is being seen as a proud moment not just for Sikkim, but for the entire Northeast, a region steadily asserting its creative voice on global platforms.

Currently, Bigyna Dahal is working on new projects for Amazon Prime Video as well as independent feature films, continuing to represent India—and Sikkim—on the world stage through sound, craft and storytelling.

His journey stands as a testament to how talent rooted in the hills of the Northeast can resonate far beyond borders, proving that global cinema increasingly listens to voices from every corner of the country.
