Music Composer Gaurav Chatterji teams up with Nakash Aziz for re’tro track in Neha Sharma, Namit Das’ starrer horror comedy ‘Aafat-e-Ishq’ Featured Funtainment by Akanksha - December 5, 2020December 5, 20200 After making the audience groove to the fun and peppy band baaja baaraat song ‘Phoonk Phoonk’ in Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey-starrer Netflix film ‘Ginny Weds Sunny’, music director Gaurav Chatterji is going retro with his new composition in horror-comedy film ‘Aafat-e-Ishq’, starring Neha Sharma, Namit Das, Deepak Dobriyal and Ila Arun. Gaurav has teamed up with the brilliant Nakash Aziz of ‘Dhating Naach’, ‘Jabra Fan’ and ‘Gandi Baat’ fame to do the playback for the special retro number, which will take the listeners back in the time of Kishore Kumar. For the song, the music composer has been inspired by the madness and quirkiness of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. “The great Kishore Kumar had unpredictableness and strange Masti in his singing. To compose the track, we sought his inspiration,” said Gaurav, who made his debut in Bollywood in Sunny Singh-starrer ‘Jai Mummy Di’. Gaurav sounded content with the way the retro track has turned out. According to the young music composer, the song has an element of retro and disco-funk. “We have used nice slick guitars and fat bass lines to infuse fresh energy into the song,” said the music director, who has received training in Hindustani classical and western classical before venturing in Bollywood. Gaurav couldn’t think of a better voice but Nakash to do justice to the new retro track. Calling Nakash one of the most versatile singers in the music industry today, Gaurav said, “The kind of Masti and madness I was looking for in the song, I think he brings it very nicely to the table. The song also requires a lot of acting while singing and Nakash is brilliant in that department too. He has terrific energy and range and was a beautiful fit for the song. Talking about the music of the film, Gaurav said that soundtrack of ‘Aafat-e-Ishq’ is quirky and doesn’t fit into the template that we hear today. “The songs cover a broad landscape. There are elements of retro, disco-funk, waltz, metal and DnB. Along with melody, we have tried to give the film a unique sonic character. ‘Aafat-e-Ishq’ is a film, where the songs and background music blend in with the narrative and are a crucial aspect of the storyline,” he said. ‘Aafat-e-Ishq’ is an adaptation of a Hungarian award-winning film ‘Liza, the Fox-Fairy’. However, Gaurav agreed that the music of the film has been composed through an Indian lens. “The film allowed me to experiment with sounds and also capture the spirit of surreal and mysticism. I have used old traditional lesser-known instruments like Surbahar. I have incorporated world music with Indian music sensibilities,” signed off Gaurav.
