Sabina Teronpi of Karbi Anglong (Saphee Lanphee) have been honoured with the prestigious National Handicrafts Awards 2023. They are among 47 exceptional artisans from across the country recognised by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. This recognition reflects the national commitment to uplift and empower India’s artisan ecosystem—a vision strongly championed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, supported by Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, and implemented through continuous efforts of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). The achievements of Bapukan Payeng and Sabina Teronpi highlight the depth of Assam’s cultural heritage and the enduring excellence of its indigenous craftsmanship. Their work not only preserves age-old traditions but also brings global attention to the rich artistic legacy of the Northeast.
