“Faith of the Community Is Our Strength”: Sonu Nigam Hails ISAMRA’s Landmark Royalty Distribution

In a watershed moment for Indian music, the Indian Singers’ and Musicians’ Rights Association (ISAMRA) at its 12th AGM announced that royalties will now be shared not just with singers but also musicians, chorus singers, and session artistes. For the first time, every contributor to a song will share in its value.

In the first phase, 62 musicians and 40 chorus singers will receive their dues. Royalties will be handed over by ISAMRA Founder & MD Sanjay Tandon, Chairman Anup Jalota, and legends Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Anuradha Paudwal, Jaspinder Narula, Sudesh Bhosle, and Shailendra Singh.

Sonu Nigam said: “What began as a small effort has now taken shape into something historic. For the first time, singers, musicians, and chorus singers are getting their rightful royalties through ISAMRA. The faith of the community has always been our pillar of strength.”

Sanjay Tandon added: “This is a first in Indian history. We have fought for years, and now I stand proud to see it become reality.”

Anup Jalota emphasized the importance of membership, while Jaspinder Narula and Shailendra Singh hailed it as a great movement and a long-awaited triumph.

With ₹4.5 crore earmarked and songs from Kesariya and Raatan Lambiyaan to Kal Ho Naa Ho and Saat Samundar Paar, ISAMRA has rewritten the music rights landscape. For the first time, every note — sung or played — carries its rightful weight.
