After Saat Phere became a hit, we got the courage to try again: Sunjoy Waddhwa on Balika Vadhu

Sunjoy Waddhwa, who has produced shows like Balika Vadhu, Gangaa, and Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar, and web shows like Ranneeti, Your Honor, and Dark 7 White under his banner Sphereorigins, is known for bringing new and fresh content to TV. He is one of the producers who isn’t afraid to take risks when it comes to content.

For Sphereorigins, Saat Phere opened doors to innovative conversation-starter stories. He said, “It was the first time a show talked about color discrimination. We wanted people to know that girls should be judged by their heart, not skin tone.”

His show Balika Vadhu was an instant hit. While the story was a conversation starter, the characters had a certain depth that made them very likeable. The show was based on an idea by writer Punyendu Shekhar and was pitched to Colors TV, and even though the channel had just launched at the time, both the channel and the producer decided to take the risk, and the rest is history.

Talking about the show, Sunjoy said, “We had this idea even before Saat Phere, but the timing wasn’t right. After Saat Phere became a hit, we got the courage to try again. The show became a huge hit, not just in India but in over 70 countries.”
