Urmila Mahanta starrer ‘Xubala’,- the Darkness Within’ has been selected as Finalist in the Africa Film For Impact Festival 2020

Xubala at the Africa Film For Impact Festival 2020

Xubala, an Assamese movie by noted filmmaker Munna Ahmed where Urmila Mahanta will be seen in never before role has again made Assamese film fraternity proud by getting selected as Finalist in Africa Film For Impact Festival 2020. Before this award, Xubala, has also been selected to be screened in Lift-off Sessions Film Festival 2020, UK and Lift-off Sessions Film Festival 2020, Hollywood.

Xubala shoot was started in the month of August 2018 and it got completed by January- February this year. Considering the pandemic the film may have to postpone its release to next year.

Bollywood actor Urmila Mahanta is portraying the title character whereas young Xubala character has been played by 8 years old Apsara Das- a student of Gurukul School, Tezpur.

While sharing the good news with Bollywood Couch, the actor confirms ” the entire team is very excited to make it to another International festival: it feels so good to win awards … it gives us more wings to fly. “I hope the audience will also adore the film well, ” added the actor.

While recalling her shooting days the actor mentions ” I was in my native Assam for more than months to complete the shoot, director Munna Ahmed is a senior director and I am grateful that he supported me well in carrying out the role’

Alongside Urmila Mahanta, the film also has actors like Atul Pachani, Himnagsu Prasad Das, Siddhartha Mukherjee, Padmarag Goshwami,

Pratibha Choudhury, Pranami Bora, Kushal Gogoi, Nila Saikia and many others.

Urmila says: “We have mainly shot in areas like Mirja, Palashbari, Guwahati etc and the entire crew bonded quite well during the shoot. We all had a memorable time.”

Xubala’s story revolves around a poor girl who had to struggle tremendously throughout her life due to her poverty and ends up becoming a prostitute. In a nutshell, it’s a story of survival of a poor girl and exploitation by society.

Award-winning singer Tarali Sarma is the reason behind the soulful music of the film whereas Debankar Borgohain has done the editing.
