Cotton University Hosts 4th Convocation; 2,804 Students Graduate and Honorary D.Litt. Conferred

Cotton University celebrated its 4th Convocation today, marking a major academic milestone with 2,804 students graduating across various disciplines. Among the graduating cohort were notable young achievers, including sprinter Hima Das, swimmer Shivangi Sarma, and athlete Kushal Chetri, adding to the day’s significance.

Honorary D.Litt. Awards Recognise Academic and Cultural Excellence

The university conferred Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degrees on two distinguished personalities:

  • Prof. Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami — eminent academic, scholar, and litterateur
  • Zubeen Garg — Assam’s beloved cultural icon, honoured posthumously for his immense contributions to music and the arts

These recognitions highlighted the institution’s acknowledgment of both scholarly excellence and cultural impact.

Dignitaries Grace the Ceremony

The convocation was attended by several prominent leaders and academicians:

  • Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Hon’ble Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Cotton University
  • Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam and Guest of Honour
  • Prof. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati

University leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Ch. Deka and Registrar (i/c) Dr. Hiren Deka, were also present on the dais, overseeing the ceremony and felicitations.

Top
