Cinestaan Film Company’s ‘The Hungry’ all set to have it’s Asian Premiere at the MAMI film festival

Mumbai: A co production with Film London, Cinestaan Film Company’s ‘The Hungry’ which recently had its worldwide premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will soon be screened at the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival. After earning accolades at the TIFF and the London Film Festival (LFF), Cinestaan Film Company’s ‘The Hungry’ is generating excitement ahead of its MAMI release.

Rohit Khattar, Chairman of Cinestaan Film Company, says, “We are very happy with the response that The Hungry has received internationally and look forward to finally screening it for Indian audiences at MAMI.”

‘The Hungry’ follows Tulsi Joshi, a widow and bride to be who comes to her own wedding seeking revenge for the brutal murder of her first born son. Based on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, ‘The Hungry’ is about the violence that exists between power and love – a macabre fairytale set in the elite circles of north India.

The film is written and directed by Bornila Chatterjee (Let’s Be Out, The Sun is Shining) and co-written and produced by Tanaji Dasgupta (Chittagong, Sold) and Kurban Kassan (The Party, 20,000 Days on Earth, Ginger and Rosa).

Talking about the film, actor Naseeruddin Shah says, “What really got through to me was that it’s a pretty accurate picture of the small town power elite in India where you have the sugar barons & the guys who make textile or landlords and there have been many instances of brothers gunning each other down, parents killing their children or vice versa. It was a sort of an attempt to understand people of that kind, and not pass judgment on them.”

Sharing her experience of working on the film, Tisca Chopra says, “While working on the film, we knew there was magic on the set. However, it is the most challenging part I have done to date and a wildly exciting one. I was frightened out of my wits. To do certain scenes, I almost didn’t eat for a few nights.” She further adds, “It’s an honour that our film is getting premiered at the MAMI.”

Starring Naseeruddin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Neeraj Kabi, Arjun Gupta, Sayani, Antonio Aakeel and Suraj Sharma, ‘The Hungry’ Produced by Cinestaan Film Company & Microwave International Ltd., and directed by Bornila Chatterjee will have it’s Asian premiere at the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival on 14th October, 2017, 4:00PM at PVR Juhu.
