Gautam Adhikari of Sab TV passes away due to heart attack today at Mumbai

Co-Founder of Sri Adhikari Brothers ,Gautam Adhikari has passed away early morning today at Mumbai. The producer died in the wee hours of Friday due to Heart attack. He was 67. Gautam is survived by wife Ranjana and two children – a son and a daughter. His last rites were performed in Vile Parle west -western suburban area of Mumbai.

 

“Gautam was earlier unwell because of kidney transplant but had been doing quite alright lately. But he got a massive heart attack at 2.30 am and passed away,” confirmed Kanchan Andhikari sister in law of Gautam Adhikari to Indian Express.

 

Gautam was the chairman and whole time director of the SAB group. As per the details mentioned on the the company’s official website-  it was started as a small family owned partnership firm by brothers Gautam and Markand in 1985, and went on to become the first publicly-listed television production company in India when it was mentioned on the BSE in 1995. The group is behind one of the most successful TV channels in the country – SAB, which is home to long-running comedies, most popularly known for Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Company’s website also mention that  Gautam also wore the director’s hat and helmed many serials, including Hello Inspector, Commandar, Marshall, Silsila and Waqt ki Raftar etc. His name was listed in the Limca Books of Records 1999 for “directing maximum episodes”. He provided his creative expertise for the production of various contents by our Company.

A pioneer of the Marathi television industry, Adhikari and his brother Markand started the Sri Adhikari Brothers, or SAB Group, in 1985. The group is behind the successful SAB TV channel, most popularly known for the show Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Popularly known as Gautambhai, was a pioneer of TV Industry. He was an institution in himself. His name is registered in Limca Book of World Record for directing highest numbers of episodes.

In fact Marathi TV serials also starts with him in 1987. He and his brother Makrand managed Sab TV quite well for so many years
