Australia witnessed such a crowd when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hoisted Indian Flag at Federation Square

The last time they saw such a crowd was when Australia won the World Cup and now when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is at Federation Square to hoist the Indian flag on the 70th year of Indian Independence.

When the former Miss World entered the Federation Square thousands of screaming fans with phone cameras aloft to capture the moment welcomed the Bollywood actress  at Melbourne’s Federation Square on Saturday.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was accompanied by non other her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, who was equally unfazed by the screaming hordes.

Aishwarya, who is  in Victoria as a guest of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, hoisted India’s national flag ahead of the nation’s 70th Independence Day on Tuesday and created history by the first Indian Women to hoist the flag in Federation Square, Melbourne.

As reported by The Age,the actor  said the attention her visit drew was “humbling,” and “so, so overwhelming”.

“I love you all, and once let’s all say with pride, Jai Hind [Hail India],” Rai Bachchan told the cheering crowd.

Known as the most beautiful woman in the world, Aishwarya was presented with the Excellence in Global Cinema Award on the evening. Prior to the event she met with Premier Daniel Andrews.
